Acupuncture

A Typical Acupuncture Session

The initial consultation may take about 60 minutes. The acupuncturist will take a detailed case history to gain an understanding of your lifestyle, diet, work, and medical problems. A diagnosis is made by observing the tongue and pulse, and taking into consideration other signs and symptoms. A physical examination is carried out if appropriate.

On the basis of the diagnosis, the acupuncturist will propose a plan of treatment that might include herbal medicine, massage, exercise, nutritional or lifestyle changes. The number and frequency of acupuncture sessions will depend on the nature of the complaint and the general state of health of the patient.

Subsequent treatment sessions will take about 30 minutes. Practitioners usually see patients once a week.
